Aromatherapy Bath Blends Using Essential Oils
Let’s face it, life moves fast and when you're juggling work, home, health, and the never-ending notifications, just finding 20 minutes to wind down feels like a win these days. That’s where aromatherapy bath blends come in - simple, homemade essential oil blends that can turn a regular bath into a much-needed relaxing escape.
Benefits of Aromatherapy Bath Blends
Essential oils mixed with a good carrier oil can help hydrate dry skin and oils like sweet almond or jojoba are gentle and absorb well, leaving skin soft and smooth without feeling greasy.
Other benefits include:
Calming the Nervous System
Some oils help calm the nervous system - lavender, ylang-ylang, and chamomile are well known for this but others like vetiver, marjoram, and neroli also work well to settle the body and mind. A warm bath with calming oils can ease tension and help you feel more at ease.
Lifting Your Mood
Aromatherapy can also help lift your mood; citrus oils like orange and bergamot are popular, but then there are oils like palmarosa, mandarin, and patchouli that can also bring a sense of balance or a gentle boost when you're feeling a little off.
Helping to Calm Your Mind
If sleep’s been an issue, essential oils like clary sage, cedarwood, vetiver, or frankincense can help create a more restful space. Their calming properties help quiet the mind and ease you into sleep more naturally.
Soothing Your Skin
Some oils are also great for supporting skin health. Tea tree, frankincense, and geranium are often used for this, but copaiba and blue tansy can also help with irritation or redness.
The Soothing Scents of Aromatherapy
And of course, there’s the scent. Your bathroom fills with something that smells clean, comforting, or uplifting depending on the blend. Inhaling these aromas while you soak can help shift how you feel emotionally. Aromatherapy works through your sense of smell to help calm the nervous system, support emotional balance, and even improve focus depending on the oil you use.
Adding essential oils to a bath is a simple way to care for both your body and your mood at the same time. It doesn’t need to be complicated, just a few drops can make a big difference.
Essential Oils to Keep on Hand for Bath Time
Here are some essential oils I like to keep around for bath blends (it’s a long list but believe me - I have lots more essential oils than this list). Some are more common, others are lesser-known, but all have something helpful to offer depending on what kind of support you're looking for, whether it’s for your mood, skin, or simply to relax.

Aromatherapy Bath Blends Using Essential Oils
These are simple aromatherapy essential oil blends you can mix up in under a minute. Add them after you fill the tub, so the oils don’t evaporate too quickly or float on top of the water. Always mix essential oils with a carrier oil before adding to the bath. Never add them straight.
Note: If you have sensitive skin or new to using essential oils, you can start with 4–5 drops total and adjust from there. But for most part, the amount in these recipes is gentle and effective for a full bath.
